This will probably apply to people with the same mental ability of myself, which would be rather low - so forgive me if I sound mental.
I’m in my second year at University studying Graphic Design. I’m really enjoying it and am finally starting to develop into areas that attract me, such as branding.
One thing I remember saying to myself at the beginning of the first year is that I want to expand my opinion on things, I’m far too narrow minded and struggle to see the bigger picture. However, this is changing.
I, along with my classmates, were told that we need to just design crazy concepts, hone it in, then start designing crazy concepts, then hone it in again, this process is to be repeated multiple times until you start seeing something that makes you say ‘yeah, this works, this could really work’… first observation & point I’d like to tell you creative people.
Second. ‘Don’t let your material/size of medium’ restrict your design, well.. yes and no on this one. I’m at a point in a project where my designs are looking alright, but there is something just not quite right about it. So I’ve done something I don’t normally do, I say ‘yes, this could work..’ then apply it to a material to see if it works.. and ok, it doesn’t work all that well but just by adding the material - in this instance glass - I’ve come up with some new ideas.. that I’m going to use for final development. Happy times.
Anyway, that’s more than enough rambling for one day!
